Founded in 1962 by Dr. Samuel Eichold II, the Mobile Medical Museum preserves and exhibits medical artifacts and archives to commemorate Mobile's prominent place in the history of medical education and public health in the state of Alabama and the Gulf Coast. The Museum's collections and exhibitions provide the public with a broad understanding of the evolution of the art and science of health care.

The Museum's permanent exhibit showcases over 300 years of local and world medical history, from the colonial period through the present. The Museum also organizes special exhibits on display in the Mary Elizabeth and Charles Bernard Rodning Gallery, and at various offsite locations in Mobile. The Robert Thrower Medicinal Garden highlights multicultural traditions of herbal medicine that have survived around the world for thousands of years. The Museum's J.L. Bedsole Archives and Ben May Library contain rare books, letters, documents and photographs that are available to students and scholars by appointment.
Since 2004, the Museum has been located at the Vincent-Doan House, one of Mobile's oldest extant homes.
